The record already held the full Hebrew date read from the stone but no civil date at all, so it sat outside every date search and off the timeline. the stone writes the year TWICE and the two agree - gematria ש' התרצ"ט and arabic 5699 - so 19 Iyar 5699 = 08/05/1939 needed no interpretation. The age 76 already on the record comes from the same stone (והיו ימיו ע"ו שנה). Converted with app/helpers/hebrew_date_utils.hebrew_date_to_gregorian and cross-checked against Georges Sebat's index card for the same photograph, which agrees.
